Steve Aoki Wonderland
No joke, I think this is some of Steve Aoki’s best work to date!
Steve Aoki dropped his new album Wonderland yesterday on iTunes, and from what I have listened to so far, it’s absolutely amazing. Now I won’t lie, I’ve always liked Aoki, but he has never been a standout producer in my eyes. However, this album is changing everything.
Wonderland is one of those great albums that pushes the boundaries of modern Electronic Dance Music. It mixes and matches dance’s many sub-genres, and even crosses boundaries into other genres. We’re talking some major features on this album including Lil Jon, Chiddy Bang, Wynter Gordon, LMFAO, NERVO, Kid Cudi, Travis Barker, Laidback Luke, and Rivers Cuomo. I’m telling you this is a serious album that features many club bangers, mainstream radio hits, and just some overall masterful tracks that truly show off Aoki’s production abilities. Throughout the album there are countless examples of rock-solid progressive, house, dubstep, trance, glitch, and ambient elements that are all perfectly executed.
After one full listen through the album, my favorite song is “Ladi Dadi” featuring Wynter Gordon. It starts out as a magical house track, very similar to something you’d here on a Kaskade album, but then when you least expect it, the song drops into an icy dubstep chorus. I’m in absolute love with this song; truly mindblowing production, and Wynter Gordons voice is absolutely flawless. Check out the song below, and below that, i’ve included “Ladi Dadi” (Part II), which is a full throttle dubstep track.
Really well done Steve Aoki! I am sorry I ever doubted you! Buy the album over on iTunes! Or wait until it is out everywhere on the 17th!
