Porter Robinson -Spitfire

I know i’ve said this a couple times already this year, but this time it’s for real… Porter Robinson’s Spitfire is HANDS DOWN the best EP of the year!
If you don’t know a lot about this young EDM, powerhouse, let me give you a quick rundown. Porter Robinson is a 19 year old EDM producer based out of Chapel Hill, NC. In terms of genre, he specializes in electro house, however he is now branching out into all sorts of other genres including dubstep, drum and bass, and moombahton. This is the beauty of his new EP, Spitfire; he’s drawing from all the greats, and creating a sound all his own.
At age 13, Robinson began using “Acid” to recreate and remix many of his favorite video game songs. As he progressed, so did his creativity, production abilities, and sound. His first single entitled “Say My Name” debuted at #1 on Beatport’s Electro-House chart. Let me ensure you, this is no small feat, there is no chart more competitive for EDM producers.
Not long after, Robinson began producing official remixes for many of music’s biggest names including: Lady Gaga, Avicii, and Spencer & Hill. After the success of these early endeavors, he began playing major EDM festivals including Ultra Music Festival, Electric Daisy Carnival, and South by Southwest. At the same time he began touring with one of modern EDM’s biggest name’s… SKRILLEX! Then earlier this summer came his biggest breakthrough yet, he was signed to Skrillex’s new label, OWSLA.
So let’s jump into the EP. I’m not even sure what to say about it… it’s straight up mind-blowing. It’s like taking some of Skrillex, Deadmau5, Nero, Chase & Status, Armin Van Buuren, and Wolfgang Gartner, tossing them altogether, and by some stroke of sheer luck, having it work out perfectly. It’s simply magical. Very few producers can combine so many different styles of EDM together and have it flow in such a masterful way. We’re talking beautiful house songs with icy, spine-tingling vocals and transitioning into a whip-lashing dubstep in the next track.
This is honestly like nothing I’ve ever heard before. I want to take my votes back for DJMag’s top 100 DJ’s and put Porter Robinson at the top of the list. At only 19 years old, I can’t even imagine what kind of madness Porter Robinson is going to unleash upon the world in future years. Oh and by the way, the album debuted at number 1 on Beatport…
I’m telling you, BUY THIS ALBUM RIGHT NOW! And be sure to check out Porter Robinson on tour with Tiësto on the College Invasion Tour. He’ll also be headlining clubs across America for his “The Spitfire Tour,” details to be announced at a later time.
Check out this album mix; it includes clips from most of the EP’s songs, and below that is one of my favorite house songs off the EP in its entirety. MAKE SURE to listen in HD!
