And now for the Top Ten…
10. Eva Simons – “I Don’t Like You” (produced by Zedd)
As soon as this one dropped, we knew it was something that would be inconsideration for this list. A transcendant vocal part brought to life by Zedd’s incomparable production skills…whats more to like? Dance music at it’s finest.
9. Tritonal & Ben Gold – “Apex”
Tritonal and Ben Gold lite the trance scene on fire with “Apex”. It’s truly a masterpiece of progressive trance. Heavy, melodic and spacious, this track really stuck out among this year’s trance tunes.
8. Sander Van Doorn – “Chasin’”
Sander really outdid himself with this one. With what may be the most simple melody I can think of, he made one of the most memorable tracks of 2012 thus far. This one is an absolute firestarter at festivals, too. Ah…giving me chills.
7. Pryda (a.k.a. Eric Prydz) – “Allein”
I mean…it’s Prydz. We knew we were in for something when Pryda dropped, but come one now. This? Awe-inspiring.
6. Qulinez – “Troll”
For my money, this is THE track I want to hear in a big, sweaty festival crowd. This track is so next level, it’s up on the fahhhhhkin’ roof.
5. Zedd – “Spectrum”
Ladies and gentleman…I give you the genreless, the astonishingly masterful, the creative genius that is Zedd. What a tour de force this track is.
4. Porter Robinson – “Language”
I’m convinced it’s impossible to dislike this track. Fans of all genres will appreciate this track for it’s emotion and production mastery. This one is special beyond words.
3. Swedish House Mafia – “Greyhound”
“Greyhound” contains one of the best sections in modern EDM history. In this particular cut, it starts at 2:50. That build you’re hearing is what happens when 3 A+ producers make sexuals in the studio.
2. Omnia & IRA – “The Fusion”
Armin van Buuren opened with “The Fusion” at Ultra Music Festival, so umm…it’s a bit good and stuff. This track will crush you. Those unfamiliar to the genre, welcome to the world of progressive trance.
1. Deadmau5 – “The Veldt”
Ahhhhh. Every year needs a masterpiece, and leave it to the master to produce it. This will go down as one of the tracks of my lifetime. This track will always represent the year of 2012 for me. The ups and downs, the personal journeys I’ve been on. This track has been there the whole time.
