Knife Party -"Internet Friends"
I’ve been listening to a whole lot of these guys lately. They’re doing it up in a whole new way, and I can’t get enough.
Naturally, I’m a big fan of Rob Swire, and his drum and bass act Pendulum, but with Knife Party, he’s taking things to a whole new level. Right now we are moving through an interesting time in EDM where sub-genres are being mixed and matched almost daily. However, Knife Party is doing it in ways that others could only dream of.
Here’s how: A lot of people argue that they like the roughness and edge of dubstep & drum and bass, but complain that the sub-genres don’t possess enough of that upbeat-ness to be true dance music. While I tend to disagree, in the end, to each their own, but if you are of this sentiment, Knife Party provides you with a viable solution. They have taken the raw edge found in dubstep, and masterfully fused it with house. No, we’re not talking 140 bpm songs with a 4/4 beat. This is true, full blown, 128 bpm house meshed with all of dub step’s fury, and it’s truly something beautiful.
You might have not heard any of their originals, but their remixes are absolutely everywhere. Remember Porter Robinson’s album Spitfire? Yup, well, one of those “Unison” remixes is Knife Party’s, and it’s one of my favorite house remixes of all time. The duo has also remixed some even more well known songs including Nero’s hit, “Crush On You,” and Swedish House Mafia’s “Save The World.”
Please do yourself a favor, and check these guys out. This is what music is all about, imagination and inventiveness. And by the way, I know I said that this is true house music, and it is, but Knife Party has produced some killer dubstep and drum and bass tracks as well. So definitely check those out if you’re a fan of those styles. Below I am tossing up a couple of my favorite Knife Party remixes, as well as some fantastic originals.
