While I know this is not straight EDM, I don’t really care! Ellie Goulding is one of my top three favorite artists of all time, so I apologize in advance if you’re not a fan, but I’m going to write about her every time she releases a song. Besides, it’s been stated that she worked with Calvin Harris, Skrillex, and others on her new album — so that would make her EDM news, right?.

Yesterday, Ellie released a new track for free, and while I said it’s not straight EDM, it is definitely electronic, and you can hear the dubstep influence. The song is entitled “Hanging On,” and it features popular British rapper Tinie Tempah… I’m in love!

Ok, well I’m in love with everything except Tinie Tempah’s feature, it’s simply unnecessary and takes away from the song’s beauty. As for the rest of the song, it’s everything that I could ever hope from an Ellie Goulding track: feathery, melodic, and just unbelievably gorgeous. The balance created by the contrasting heavy beat/deep synths and Ellie’s incredibly light vocals is unbelievable.

It’s truly amazing how one of the most delicate voices in music can also be one of the most powerful. Ellie’s voice is simply in a realm of it’s own, no one else sounds remotely like her. Seriously, just bail on Skrillex; I’ll marry you right now.

Ellie Goulding’s upcoming album is without a doubt my most anticipated album of 2012 — it’s not even close.
