Audien – “Eventide”

Forget about all the formal post structure, let me lay it on you like this:

My boy Audien is one of the best trance/progressive house producers out there right now. 2012 has been an absolutely HUGE year for him, and he’s been pumping out releases at an absolutely rapid pace. From anthem tracks like “These Are The Days to progressive trance stunners like “The Reach,” this kid is tearing the game up at an incredibly young age. I can’t even imagine what he’s going to be putting out by the time he’s 25.

Audien’s new “Eventide”/”Unity” EP is due out on Above & Beyond’s legendary Anjunabeats label on August 2nd, but I couldn’t wait until then. I had to write something about it right now. So let’s talk about “Eventide.”

Trance has been evolving a lot over the past one to two years. No, it hasn’t lost it’s melodic/uplifting sound, nor that “something from above” quality that we all fell in love with. However, it has definitely begun to incorporate a much more bass driven sound — but then again so has electronic dance music as a whole.

Audien’s “Eventide” plays off of a gritty bass (at least in it’s earliest sections) that provides the track with a big room quality, yet nothing too overpowering. Don’t worry, the focus is still upon groovy plucks, smooth synths, and airy pads. However, what I love most are the simple piano intermissions that really provide the song with a beautiful flow.

Check it out below! I’m sure we’ll be writing a lot more about this EP before release, so stay tuned!
