AN21 & Max Vangeli vs Steve Angello – “H8RS”

I’ve seen a lot of back-and-fourth banter over the last two days in regards to Steve Angello’s collaboration track with his younger brother AN21 and Max Vangeli. I’m just not sure why people are so up in arms?

Look, this isn’t a Steve Angello solo track, nor is this a Swedish House Mafia song, so you can’t possibly expect it to sound identical to either of those things. This was a collaboration track, which means there’s obviously going to be a lot of influence from younger brother AN21 and his partner Max Vangeli. For that reason, if you’re going to listen to this song and say, “this is nothing like Steve’s regular shit,” please just get out; you don’t understand the concept of a collaboration.

I’m not trying to sound like an ass, but honestly, these artists put a lot of time and handwork into their music. I’m not saying you can’t be critical, or even dislike it, hell, that’s my job! However, at least realize that this type of song is a group effort, so don’t pin it all on Steve. If you don’t like it, that’s perfectly fine, and I support that entirely, but not liking it because it doesn’t sound like SHM or Steve’s solo work…

Anyway, as for “H8RS” itself, I think it’s pretty good. It has a nice electro-house feel that is brought full circle by a really catchy synth line. My favorite part is mid-song — you all know how I appreciate a good breakdown.
